Year-in-Beer Week 15

Ahh now we are back on schedule.

Week 15 of Year-in-Beer is Magic Hat's Elder Betty

  1. This is definitely a summer style beer. It has the golden haze you would expect to enjoy while sitting down on a warm summer afternoon. The nose also hits with a punch of the yeast that cannot help but bring back memories of sitting outside on a warm summer evening near a fire. There is a bit of a fruitiness in the nose. In taste, this beer has more flavor than a lot of summer seasonals. It is a fairly balanced beer that ends with a hint of berry sweetness.

This is my first exposure to this beer, and it is part of a personal journey rediscovering Magic Hat as a brewery. In that line, it holds things together. It is a very nice beer, and would be very good on a warm summer afternoon. I am not sure it is quite a session beer (not that it pretends to be), because there is enough surprising flavor that it forces you to listen to it.

  2. A tasty and refreshing American style Hef, golden and hazy with a sweet elderberry nuance.
Finish is a little cloying but overall flavor is nice.
This beer is a very nice and flavorful addition to the summer seasonal entries.
MagicHat continues its imaginative interpretation of conventional styles with this sweet summer style American Hef.
Enjoy this on a summer day when you want a little sweetness instead of bitterness.
    Cheers
